The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Jordan Travis slide 83 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Put together, it is a D.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. All has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A quiet steal in the 13th overall pick: Caleb Williams for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in pick No. 34, with Terrion Arnold worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at the 35th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 36th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Kool-Aid McKinstry come to them and pounced at No. 39. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Bo Nix, who had no business lasting to slot 42. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled JC Latham all the way to Round 3, Pick 4, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Troy Fautanu at pick 70 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Troy Franklin at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 72 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They barely believed it either: Braden Fiske still on the board at the 73rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Adisa Isaac in Round 3, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Christian Haynes was still sitting there in No. 90, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Max Melton at the 106th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in slot 107, where Trey Benson graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: DJ James at pick No. 119 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Tyler Davis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Foster at the 141st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Ben Sinnott in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
AJ Barner in Round 5, Pick 30 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cedric Gray in pick No. 176 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They liked Steele Chambers enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 182. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They talked themselves into Erick All at slot 187, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Jordan Travis in No. 240 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
