Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Giants spent pick 244 on Taulia Tagovailoa, a name the board had a full 31 spots lower.
The Sanders pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
In pick 16 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 17 they get a seam-stretching tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 18th overall pick they get juice off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in pick No. 39, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Nubin in the 48th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 56th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Adonai Mitchell at pick 70 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Darius Robinson in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 88th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Renardo Green at Round 3, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Ja'Tavion Sanders at No. 96 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Christian Haynes at slot 97 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mike Sainristil in pick No. 108 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the 115th overall pick: Zak Zinter for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Audric Estime at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Spencer Rattler was still sitting there in No. 140, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at slot 150 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cedric Gray in pick 151 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Anthony Gould at pick No. 152 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaac Guerendo in the 185th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Caedan Wallace was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 20. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Erick All at pick No. 203 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Layden Robinson all the way to pick 211, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Myles Cole higher than Round 7, Pick 14, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taulia Tagovailoa in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Jordan Magee in the 255th pick, a genuine coup. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
