Call it larceny. Xavier Legette sat on the board until No. 155, and the Giants did not need to be asked twice. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Every board in the league had Chambers lower, and that gap is the story. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Budda Baker leading the way.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Malik Nabers in No. 8, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Drake Maye at slot 47 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braden Fiske is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 10 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Junior Colson in the 75th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Chris Braswell at pick No. 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Malachi Corley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DJ James in No. 79 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Renardo Green went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Mike Sainristil at slot 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Max Melton at Round 4, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Cole Bishop in pick 109, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaac Guerendo at the 141st overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaiah Davis a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 146, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Brennan Jackson at Round 5, Pick 18, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Legette in pick No. 155 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Steele Chambers at the 183rd pick that the board grades a round light. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 221 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
