The Giants torched the value chart for Caedan Wallace, taking him 55 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Laumea falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
In pick 27 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Cooper DeJean come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Adonai Mitchell was the payoff at pick No. 44. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 15 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Renardo Green in slot 70, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylen Wright at Round 3, Pick 11 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nothing to complain about; Austin Booker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Tyler Guyton was still sitting there in pick No. 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Theo Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 89 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a cornerback like Max Melton reach slot 98 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Cole Bishop at par in the 99th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in pick 107, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Javon Baker in No. 108, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Gabriel Murphy in the 110th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Maason Smith in pick No. 111 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 20, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
