The Giants did not so much draft Trey Knox as overpay for him, 51 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Bo Nix gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
That Fautanu pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 17 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
JC Latham in No. 18 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quinyon Mitchell at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
In the 25th pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 26 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Terrion Arnold slipping to slot 39 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in pick 40. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Taliese Fuaga reach Round 2, Pick 15 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Adonai Mitchell in the 58th overall pick, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 70th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Austin Booker in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Graham Barton at No. 83 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 86, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Troy Fautanu at slot 87 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Trey Benson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Blake Corum in pick 96, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marshawn Kneeland in the 97th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Brenden Rice higher than slot 108, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ben Sinnott slid further than he should have, and the 140th pick is lovely value for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, AJ Barner at Round 5, Pick 21 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Anthony Gould here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Trey Knox at pick No. 186, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Kamal Hadden in pick 200 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
