The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 58 spots for Caedan Wallace, and value like that does not grow back. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it.
On value alone, Melton makes the weekend a net positive.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get their guy under center for the next decade at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 16 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 31 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Steal is underselling it; Kool-Aid McKinstry at No. 59 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Jonathon Brooks was the payoff at the 62nd pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 83 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Cade Stover in pick 95 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Calen Bullock in the 97th overall pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach slot 217 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Anim Dankwah at the 241st overall pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Edefuan Ulofoshio is a better player than the 247th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
