The Giants went off the board in a big way for Caedan Wallace, 30 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Alt pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brock Bowers in the Round 1 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
In the 18th pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 19 they get a press-man option on the boundary. A real need, handled.
In pick 31 they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Joe Alt in No. 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 63 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and the 70th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Jaylen Wright worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 24, where Austin Booker graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Calen Bullock here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Kitan Oladapo in the 141st pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Michael Pratt in Round 5, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Caedan Wallace. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Steele Chambers in slot 185, and the value did not follow. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Trey Knox in pick 240 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
