When a board-topper like Jackson Powers-Johnson slides to the 140th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Giants did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 14 they get an island corner. A real need, handled.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Taliese Fuaga in the 39th pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Tyler Nubin in No. 48 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kamari Lassiter at slot 51 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 70th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Chris Braswell is a better player than pick 71 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 8, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 140 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III at the 149th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
