The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Javon Bullard slide 125 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Rome Odunze, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
In No. 21 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In the 27th pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A slide stopped in slot 39, with Kool-Aid McKinstry worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Nubin slid further than he should have, and pick No. 47 is lovely value for the safety. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Chop Robinson at pick 67 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
DJ James at Round 3, Pick 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Dominick Puni went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an edge rusher like Marshawn Kneeland reach Round 4, Pick 8 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ray Davis in slot 138 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Theo Johnson in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Javon Bullard in pick No. 185 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steele Chambers in the 188th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
