The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Keon Coleman slide 83 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
The Magee pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 15th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 20 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at the 39th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and the 48th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Austin Booker at Round 3, Pick 6 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
DJ James in pick No. 72 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Renardo Green in No. 73 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 75 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Keon Coleman still on the board at pick No. 121. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mike Sainristil in slot 122 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Javon Foster went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Tyler Davis all the way to the 140th pick, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 147 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a quarterback like Michael Pratt reach pick 163 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Roger Rosengarten at Round 5, Pick 28 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Cody Schrader at slot 185 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nathan Thomas at the 187th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Marcus Harris in the 188th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Xavier Thomas at No. 195 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Magee at pick No. 199 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They robbed the room for Chau Smith-Wade here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tykee Smith in pick 212 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Erick All at Round 6, Pick 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Tahj Washington at Round 6, Pick 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Joe Milton III was still sitting there in pick No. 221, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Jared Wiley in No. 222, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Josh Proctor higher than the Round 7 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Justin Rogers at the 234th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Julian Pearl at pick 237 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
