The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Roman Wilson slide 74 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They are betting Kamara proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Calvin Ridley leading the way.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
You do not let an edge rusher like Jared Verse reach slot 39 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, JC Latham in Round 2, Pick 15, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in the 48th pick with a little surplus value in J.J. McCarthy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Bo Nix in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A safety of that caliber at the 50th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 51 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Troy Fautanu still on the board at pick 58. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Kris Jenkins at the 70th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Payton Wilson at the 96th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Malachi Corley in pick 97 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyler Guyton in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Mohamed Kamara enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 9. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 115 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in slot 140, where Cole Bishop graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Roman Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Braden Fiske was still sitting there in the 154th overall pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Ben Sinnott all the way to slot 185, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
