There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Giants started one anyway for Joe Milton III, 41 picks ahead of schedule. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The Corum pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
In No. 7 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Worthy in slot 47 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 70 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Renardo Green in the 71st pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 107th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edgerrin Cooper in Round 4, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Malachi Corley at No. 115 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Cooper Beebe at pick 116 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. still on the board at pick No. 117. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zak Zinter at the 118th pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Corum in slot 149 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Fabien Lovett this early at the 153rd overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Audric Estime at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Erick All all the way to Round 5, Pick 19, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 166 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Hall at the 170th overall pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in pick 175, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Nathan Thomas enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 182. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Cedric Johnson at par in No. 183, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
