New York Giants

The Giants left with their quarterback, and a D- to match.

Some picks age like wine; Javontae Jean-Baptiste at No. 188 will need to, sitting 39 spots clear of his grade.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.

However the rest shakes out, Coleman at that price is a win they earned. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Spending an early pick on linebacker with interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the 6th pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.15 · Pick 15 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 18
In No. 27 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
Darius Robinson at pick No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 43
Edgerrin Cooper in pick 47 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 44
A curious use of the 48th overall pick. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in Payton Wilson did not.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 45
Good price on Jonathon Brooks in pick No. 49, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Kris Jenkins at the 50th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 63
A reach for Christian Haynes in pick 53; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 69
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 6, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 54
Value with a capital V on Malachi Corley in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · DJ James · CB · rank 85
A quiet steal in the 96th overall pick: DJ James for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 38
Keon Coleman at No. 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 76
They will replay Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 105 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 82
A want over a need in the 108th pick: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 108
Cole Bishop at No. 109 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 114
Sataoa Laumea at pick 118 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 81
Khyree Jackson at the 119th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 126
A clean, defensible pick in slot 130 with a little surplus value in Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.15 · Pick 151 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 156
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Travis at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 131
Taking Ben Sinnott in Round 5, Pick 17 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 153
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Thomas in pick No. 160. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 154
Cody Schrader slid further than he should have, and the 171st pick is lovely value for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 133
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in slot 179, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 135
You do not let a tight end like Theo Johnson reach the 185th overall pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 177
Isaac Guerendo is a better player than pick No. 186 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 180
Caedan Wallace at pick 187 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Javontae Jean-Baptiste · DE-EDGE · rank 227
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javontae Jean-Baptiste. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
