You could see the war room lean forward. Devontez Walker at slot 126 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They are betting Booker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 35. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamren Kinchens in pick 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 58th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Xavier Legette at pick No. 66 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Edgerrin Cooper, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 7. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 75th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They went early on Michael Pratt in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Blake Corum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Devontez Walker reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ben Sinnott at the 130th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Austin Booker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Mike Sainristil still on the board at pick No. 143. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Joe Milton III in the 185th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
