They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Caedan Wallace, 54 picks early at the Round 5 slot.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Carter. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 9 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 10 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In the 15th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 16 they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy at the 49th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Renardo Green in pick 70, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 96th overall pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Benson in No. 100. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Zak Zinter at par in slot 107, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in Round 4, Pick 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 114, with Cole Bishop worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khyree Jackson at pick 116 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow MarShawn Lloyd was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Andru Phillips in the 124th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 125 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Solomon at Round 4, Pick 32 is the proof. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Brennan Jackson in the 139th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Isaac Guerendo slipping to the 141st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Anthony Gould. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 154 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Kamal Hadden in slot 155, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Caedan Wallace at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brandon Coleman at pick 169 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fabien Lovett in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Joe Milton III in the 202nd pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Erick All at No. 203, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Myles Cole come to them and pounced at pick No. 207. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking M.J. Devonshire in the 212th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Magee at Round 7, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
KT Leveston at slot 236 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
