Call it larceny. Kyle McCord sat on the board until pick 211, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They are betting Baker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Derrick Harmon slipping to pick No. 44 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Gunnar Helm in pick 76, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jeffrey Bassa at the 150th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 170th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Kyren Lacy still on the board at Round 5, Pick 33. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Robert Spears-Jennings in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on JJ Pegues, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
