New York Jets

The phones sank the Jets this weekend: C+.

by aechean · 2026 NFL Draft · 12 picks · 1 steals · 6 reaches
Value C
Need B
Trades F
Future A+

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Jets took Patrick Payton a full 140 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Dixon value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Carnell Tate · WR · rank 12
In the 12th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Caleb Lomu · OT · rank 28
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 33rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dontay Corleone this early at pick No. 44. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 132
They reached a country mile for Harold Perkins Jr. at No. 92, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 109
A straight-up fair deal on Nicholas Singleton at pick 103, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Patrick Payton · DL-EDGE · rank 244
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in pick 104, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
A real head-scratcher, Drew Allar in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 142
CJ Daniels in slot 140 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Febechi Nwaiwu · OG · rank 173
Febechi Nwaiwu at No. 179 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 214
They read the board right and Thaddeus Dixon was the payoff at pick No. 228. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 254
They paid up for Robert Spears-Jennings at the 242nd pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
