Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Jets were there to profit. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 93. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Jets indulged a want in Raridon while a need in quarterback and edge rusher stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In No. 16 they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. More want than need.
In the 20th pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Johnson in Round 2, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Blake Miller at pick 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 93, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Domonique Orange at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Max Klare in slot 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A want over a need in the 140th pick: Eli Raridon adds a tight end while quarterback and edge rusher keeps waiting.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Ar'maj Reed-Adams graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in slot 228: Harrison Wallace III for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
TJ Hall in Round 7, Pick 26 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
