Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Wesley Williams at slot 242 is 70 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Lew at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Jets indulged a want in Allen while a need in cornerback and safety stayed open.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, even if it was a touch early.
In pick 24 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Omar Cooper Jr. in the 33rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking CJ Allen at linebacker with cornerback and safety open.
Steal is underselling it; Connor Lew at No. 116 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Max Llewellyn in Round 4, Pick 27 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Drew Allar at pick 140 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Demond Claiborne. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Zane Durant went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Wesley Williams in the 242nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
