Nobody had Chad Lindberg this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 39 spots to get him at the Round 6 slot.
It is not that Brade is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Brade. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 56th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Rod Moore in the 57th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen McMillan. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Cooper Beebe in slot 88, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Braelon Allen in pick 92, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Beau Brade while clear needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman sat open.
A want over a need in No. 125: Jaylan Ford adds a linebacker while quarterback and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
A conviction pick on Jaheim Bell at pick No. 128 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Layden Robinson in the 135th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Jaylen Harrell enough to skip the value, taking him in the 174th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Dominic Lovett at slot 203 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chad Lindberg in pick 217 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sheridan Jones in Round 6, Pick 44 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Trey Wedig at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
