Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. TreVeyon Henderson, the No. 55 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 150.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Grover Stewart pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. More want than need.
Tyler Warren at slot 45 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Jalon Walker at No. 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 150th pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 170th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Barrett Carter in Round 5, Pick 33 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 174 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in pick 190. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Jeffrey Bassa in No. 211 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jack Kiser in pick No. 249 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
