The Dolphins did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into pick No. 224. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Uiagalelei pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Booker slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 17 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Jalen Royals was still sitting there in pick 98, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Howard Cross III this early at the 114th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason Taylor in slot 117 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick No. 133, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; DJ Uiagalelei in No. 149 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Barrett Carter at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 154, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Seth McLaughlin at No. 231 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joey Slackman well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
