When a board-topper like Cam Skattebo slides to pick 231, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not.
They are betting Mertz proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 16 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Mason Taylor in pick No. 98, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Hayden Conner at the 114th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Bech at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at pick 149 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Ty Robinson at par in No. 154, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Graham Mertz in slot 224 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 231 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jared Wilson in the 252nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
