The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 48 spots for Austin Reed, and value like that does not grow back.
On value alone, Goncalves makes the weekend a net positive. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Xavier Legette at the 71st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for DJ James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Fair-plus on Sataoa Laumea, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matt Goncalves at No. 158 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Marcus Harris still on the board at Round 6, Pick 9. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 198 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Austin Reed, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steele Chambers at No. 241 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
