Boards are made to be trusted, and the Dolphins shredded theirs for KJ Jefferson. He came off 70 spots early, and the room will hear about it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
However the rest shakes out, Reid at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in pick 48, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tory Horton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo in the 114th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at pick No. 133 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 12, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at the 154th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Addison West in No. 224 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for KJ Jefferson at slot 231, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Karene Reid at pick 252 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
