The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jaylin Simpson, the 184th pick, roughly 26 picks past where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If Milton III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Roman Wilson slipping to the 55th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 66 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trevor Keegan at slot 158 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylin Simpson in pick 184 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Justin Eboigbe in No. 186 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at Round 6, Pick 23, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Jaylan Ford in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
