This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Max Melton, the No. 111 name on the board, stolen at pick 144.
Bortolini has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Kamren Kinchens in No. 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 51st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Trey Benson in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Johnny Wilson come to them and pounced at slot 83. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Max Melton at Round 5, Pick 8 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tanor Bortolini in pick 190, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
