The Vikings spent real capital to be 37 picks early on J.J. McCarthy, and the board is going to hold them to it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. Washington falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 11 they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Darius Robinson at No. 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Jalen McMillan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Cody Schrader at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.

Trevin Wallace at Round 7, Pick 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
