The search is over. The Giants handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the McCarthy reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
J.J. McCarthy at the 26th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Xavier Worthy at slot 46 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 27, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Cooper Beebe at pick 70 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Brandon Dorlus in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Audric Estime in pick No. 108 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Wilson at the 118th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tykee Smith at No. 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
