The Packers went off the board in a big way for Braelon Allen, 56 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Sanders falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Bralen Trice at No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Guyton in pick 45 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They let Byron Murphy II come to them and pounced at slot 53. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Trey Benson in the 60th pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Javon Bullard at pick No. 65 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid a round early for Christian Haynes in the 66th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in pick 68: Ja'Tavion Sanders for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Caelen Carson at slot 69 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the 70th overall pick on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Payton Wilson in No. 73 leaves quarterback for later.
Blake Corum in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A curious use of pick No. 79. Quarterback needed the pick; a linebacker in Junior Colson did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Roman Wilson at Round 3, Pick 19, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
A want over a need in No. 88: Tykee Smith adds a safety while quarterback keeps waiting.
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Matt Goncalves at par in the 100th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Beaux Limmer at slot 112 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 115 with a little surplus value in Max Melton. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Drake Nugent at Round 4, Pick 31 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Javon Foster in slot 132, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Gabe Hall this early at the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 177th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
