This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Josaiah Stewart, the No. 43 name on the board, stolen at No. 219. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Ashton Jeanty all the way to the 40th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Wyatt Milum reach pick No. 71 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 78 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Walter Nolen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tre Harris at the 142nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josaiah Stewart in pick 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Moore still on the board at the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Trey Amos at Round 7, Pick 22 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
