The war room fell hard for Eyabi Okie-Anoma, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 18: 45 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Whatever J.J. McCarthy becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
However the rest shakes out, Milton at that price is a win they earned.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get their quarterback of the future, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Tyler Nubin in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Cade Stover at the 68th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at the 80th pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick 103 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Caelen Carson higher than Round 4, Pick 10, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Will Shipley at pick No. 137 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Luke McCaffrey in pick 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Jalyx Hunt at slot 180 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Fabien Lovett at the Round 6 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in No. 214, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Myles Harden at the 237th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the 238th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Kendall Milton still on the board at the 253rd pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
