Somebody in the 219th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Tahj Washington, the No. 187 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Reaching for Bishop left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 28 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 74th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cole Bishop in the 79th overall pick, miles early. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 129, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Elijah Jones was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Christian Jones in the 134th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Johnny Wilson in Round 5, Pick 7, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Dillon Johnson in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Walter Rouse slipping to No. 176 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Delmar Glaze enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 177. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Logan Lee at the 202nd pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Johnny Dixon at slot 215 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Erick All higher than pick No. 218, and the tight end fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Tahj Washington still on the board at slot 219. It fills a real need, too.
KT Leveston at pick 245 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trevin Wallace at the 255th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
