The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jordan Davis at slot 245 regardless, 116 picks early.
On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
They let Terrion Arnold come to them and pounced at the 30th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Graham Barton was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 22, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Payton Wilson at pick 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Michael Hall Jr. at slot 67 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Trey Benson at par in No. 85, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cole Bishop at pick No. 86 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback untouched.
They paid sticker price for Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 30, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; McKinnley Jackson in pick 95 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Khyree Jackson all the way to the 135th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Blake Fisher in the 141st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Jamari Thrash here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 167 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac Rex in Round 7, Pick 10, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Jordan Davis at No. 245, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tahj Washington in the 255th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
