It is the swing that defines the weekend: Curtis Jacobs in the 138th overall pick, a good 60 spots before the room expected him.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. However the rest shakes out, McConkey at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to pick No. 30. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Graham Barton was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cooper DeJean is a better player than slot 43 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Edgerrin Cooper in the 58th pick, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Ladd McConkey at pick 63 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 2, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mekhi Wingo well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Cole Bishop in the 79th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Will Shipley in slot 106 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A surprising call. With quarterback and tight end still to address, they spent pick No. 107 on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety they were not short of.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Fisher. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Grayson Murphy in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Curtis Jacobs at No. 138 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Elijah Jones at pick 144 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Johnny Wilson all the way to Round 5, Pick 18, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Logan Lee at the 169th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Walter Rouse in pick 182 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
