Whoever sat across the table from the Packers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
That Gray pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Hall Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Graham Barton at No. 41. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Edgerrin Cooper slid further than he should have, and slot 60 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quiet steal in the 61st overall pick: T.J. Tampa for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Michael Hall Jr. in pick 67 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Max Melton in the 79th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cole Bishop at the 93rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenden Rice in No. 113. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Blake Fisher in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cedric Gray at pick 139 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Darius Muasau at Round 7, Pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
