Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Packers to leave a draft. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took DeJean.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 26, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Ruke Orhorhoro in pick No. 60; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Dominick Puni at the 74th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
A conviction pick on Cole Bishop at pick 93 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach for Will Shipley in No. 95; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany at the 96th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for James Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Johnny Wilson in pick 109 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Elijah Jones in Round 4, Pick 16, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
