There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Malik Mustapha, 46 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Trice falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kingsley Suamataia in No. 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the 78th pick: Bralen Trice for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brenden Rice in the 100th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Malik Mustapha at slot 123 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Josh Newton in pick 128 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dylan Laube in pick No. 134, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Curtis Jacobs in the 152nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jordan Jefferson in the 169th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
