You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent pick No. 127 on Malik Mustapha while quarterback and tight end sat unaddressed. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Shipley lower, and that gap is the story.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 40 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach for Christian Haynes in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in the 59th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They went early on Brandon Dorlus in the 71st pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Dominick Puni, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in slot 91, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach on Will Shipley in pick 100; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart at the 104th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malik Mustapha while clear needs at quarterback and tight end sat open.
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at No. 169. It fills a real need, too.
