The Packers spent real capital to be 53 picks early on Gabe Hall, and the board is going to hold them to it. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
King at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper DeJean in the 41st pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
T.J. Tampa in pick No. 69 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cole Bishop in pick 71, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Xavier Worthy at No. 89 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in slot 91, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Matt Goncalves at the 123rd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Blake Fisher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at linebacker with quarterback open.
Nelson Ceaser in pick No. 127 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Ben Sinnott, who had no business lasting to pick 138. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Gabe Hall in No. 169 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kalen King in the 176th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Curtis Jacobs went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 6, Pick 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They barely believed it either: Tatum Bethune still on the board at No. 253. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Somehow Tylan Grable was still sitting there in pick No. 255, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
