Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent Round 2, Pick 28 on Dani Dennis-Sutton, a name most had 23 spots down the list.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Thomas steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a two-high chess piece, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Lee Hunter slipping to pick No. 57 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in slot 60 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mike Washington Jr. at the 89th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
J.C. Davis in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Zavion Thomas higher than No. 239, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Bryce Foster in the 241st pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
