The Bears bet big and early on Mikail Kamara, 42 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Igbinosun.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 10 they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Lee Hunter in pick 60 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jake Slaughter at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jacob Rodriguez at slot 72 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kamari Ramsey at the 89th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mikail Kamara well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 129 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kaden Wetjen is a better player than the 239th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Fa'alili Fa'amoe at par in the 241st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Robert Spears-Jennings went about where he belonged in No. 256. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
