You build a draft on nights like this. Miyan Williams had no business being available in slot 246, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Keegan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Kamari Lassiter in the 25th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Kamren Kinchens, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Hall Jr. at No. 88, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nothing to complain about; Braden Fiske went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots to take Tykee Smith, a safety that was not the priority.
Good price on MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 135, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trevor Keegan in the 203rd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Omar Speights higher than No. 217, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Miyan Williams at slot 246 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
