The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Cam Ward slide 226 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Little to argue with here, and the A says so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The veteran additions, Jonathan Taylor chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In the end it comes back to Travis Hunter, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ashton Jeanty in slot 103 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A edge rusher of that caliber at pick 104 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Walter Nolen at the 116th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
T.J. Sanders in pick No. 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Alfred Collins at No. 157 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Tre Harris at Round 5, Pick 26 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Bradyn Swinson at the 170th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They will replay Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick No. 190 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Wyatt Milum was still sitting there in slot 202, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 209, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Kyle Kennard still on the board at the Round 6 slot. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jake Majors at No. 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Devin Neal here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Cam Ward in Round 7, Pick 16 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Shemar Turner reach the 238th pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dylan Fairchild in slot 241 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Darius Alexander all the way to pick No. 248, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
