Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Andrew Mukuba, the No. 69 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 126. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Every board in the league had Slackman lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector, reach and all.
They did well to land Isaiah Bond in Round 2, Pick 26, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Devin Neal went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Andrew Mukuba in the 126th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 165 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Joey Slackman in the 241st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
