There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took Nick Martin a full 28 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Wilson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Alfred Collins in pick No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wilson at the 127th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Ollie Gordon II at slot 167, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Jordan Hancock in the 192nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Nick Martin in pick 243 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
