The Gino Garcia selection is the head-turner. The Texans reached 110 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Winston Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They went early on Jayden Higgins in No. 59, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jared Wilson in the 89th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Raheim Sanders at pick 127 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 128th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Gino Garcia in pick No. 167, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Teddye Buchanan. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Will Sheppard at the 243rd pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
