The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith fell into No. 243.
Every board in the league had Broughton lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Nothing to complain about; Kenneth Grant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tre Harris at slot 58 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Tate Ratledge, who had no business lasting to No. 89. It fills a real need, too.
Vernon Broughton at the 127th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Raheim Sanders at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a wide receiver like KeAndre Lambert-Smith reach pick No. 243 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
