Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 127 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Jayden Higgins at slot 89 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sebastian Castro in the 127th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 167 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Clay Webb at No. 243, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
