When the story of this class is written, it opens with Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 89, a reach of 85 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Alfred Collins at the 58th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at Round 3, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nazir Stackhouse at slot 127 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Raheim Sanders in No. 167 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jonas Sanker all the way to pick 243, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
